July 31st is National Avocado Day, and we can’t wait to celebrate! Lately, we’ve been feeling like we’re stuck in our very own version of Groundhogs Day, and we’re looking for any reason to celebrate or do something special. Not only is avocado delicious on toast and extremely versatile, but it’s also good for your health. According to Cedars-Sinai, not only are avocados full of good fats and fiber, but they include vitamins and minerals like magnesium, potassium, vitamins c, e, and k. They also help you to better absorb vitamins a, d, e, and k.

If you’re looking for a new way to add some avocado to your diet, check out this workshop from sisters Linda and Cynthia Barragán. They will walk you through the process of creating your own sopes, which like thicker tortillas, and can be topped with beans, salsa, and you guessed it, avocado. The sisters are helping spread Mexican culture through their cafe in Ocean City, Maryland, called Casita Linda.

Annabel Cohen, the owner of Annabel Cohen Cooks Detroit, is also a writer, chef, cooking instructor, food stylist, and consultant. During her workshop, she taught us how to make four delicious salads that will make you forget all about the trusty Caesar salad. One of Annabel’s favorites is technically a soup, but gazpacho is a great way to showcase summer produce. You can customize this dish to highlight all your favorite vegetables and flavors, and the best way to top it off is with a couple of slices of avocado.

During this class, Annabel also prepares a lighter version of the barbeque-classic pasta salad. By switching mayo with yogurt, Annabel creates a healthier side dish, and she tops it with a few chunks of avocado.

According to an article from Byrdie.com, avocado has health benefits not only benefit your insides but your outsides as well. Dr. Karen Hammerman is a board-certified dermatologist, and in this article, she says that avocado oil contains anti-aging properties and can help stimulate collagen production. Avocado can also help protect your skin against UV damage, Dr. Hammerman says.

Give yourself a spa day and mash together a ripe avocado with some honey and spread it on your face for a relaxing and healthy mask. You can also add some oats to help reduce redness or inflammation. Cucumber slices for your eyes are optional, but we recommend it. Treat yourself! You deserve it.

Another quick way to rejuvenate your face is an easy, at-home facelift. Nga El, a holistic health coach, breaks it all down in her video. Nga will demonstrate how to increase blood flow to three major areas; the eyes, neck, and cheeks. She also uses breath and intentions to help you put your best face forward for your weekly trip to the grocery store or a Zoom meeting with your besties.

Finding ways to stay busy is harder than usual this summer. Celebrating little holidays, like National Avocado Day, is a great way to add some excitement to your week. Following along with the extensive library of workshops, guides, and classes that Girls Nite In has put together is a great way to learn something new and have fun doing it. So slice up that avocado sitting in your fridge and enjoy!
